Who was Justinian I?

Flavius Justinian (482-565) was a renowned Roman emperor, better known as Justinian I the Great. His rule began in the year 527 and lasted until his death.

As emperor he focused on the task of reviving the former greatness of the classical Roman Empire, reconquering much of the lost territories of the Western Roman Empire.

On the other hand, one of his most important legacies is the uniform compilation of Roman law in the work of the Corpus Iuris Civilis, which is still the basis of the civil law of many modern states.
