1. Slave owners argued this because many slaves had never live outside slavery and had no prospects. Owners provided food, water, and some even provided compensation.

2. Family and religion were cornerstones of the negro culture and for slaves was sometimes the only place they felt free.

3. Many rebelled while still travelling overseas, some rebelled by refusing to work or by running away.
