Your speech should explain which of the Reformation's causes you think the church has control over and which it doesn't. It should also offer advice on how to handle the issues the Catholic Church does have control over. Surely you can see that this is a serious matter. If allowed, it will have a serious affect on both the church and the pope. If people are allowed to communicate directly with the Holy Master of the Universe, what will be the function of your priests? What will your function be if theirs is reduced?

Among the 95 points Luther makes is one on indulgences. That is income for the church -- much needed for buildings. The ban on indulgences will seriously erode the power of the church over the people. We cannot let that removal of that doctrine remain unchallenged.
