One would think that America lived up to the American dream that most immigrants had by the notion of The American dream which is the belief that anyone, regardless of where they were born or what class they were born into, can attain their own version of success in a society in which upward mobility is possible for everyone which is evident in the lives of American citizens by the freedom given to all and sundry. By extension, many have not utilise the opportunity positively.

However, the reverse is the case when it comes to the notion of another citizen coming to America for upward mobility. Efforts have been taken to normalise the discrepancy but not quite effective.

What the American dream looks like for immigrants?

A study by the National Bureau of Economic Research, published in 2019, found that children of immigrants have higher rates of upward mobility than the children of those born in the US. More significantly, they found that shifts in immigration policy and country of origin have not altered the pattern.
