What are genetically modified organisms?

Genetically modified organisms (GMO) are organisms (either plants or animals) whose genome has been altered using genetic engineering techniques.

GMO crops often carry out genes of other species in order to become resistant to different diseases and abiotic conditions.

The major drawback associated with this outcome can be the use of pesticides, which may be teratogenic and/or carcinogenic agents.

In my opinion, GMO foods should be labeled so that consumers can know-how is made each consumed product.
