Informative writing has the intent to inform or educate us on a particular topic or event. It gives us more information and insight onto something.
Persuasive writing has the intent of convincing us to believe in a certain idea or to perform a certain action. For instance, advertisements have a persuasive intent; they are persuading us to buy a product or service.
Argumentative writing is similar to persuasive writing in the sense that they are persuading us to believe a certain idea. However, they are often based on logic and fact rather than opinions.
Let's look at the first excerpt.
This morning at 9 a.m., a school bus collided with a car at the intersection of Osmena and Cabrera streets. The passengers were not injured, but the medical personnel checked each student as well as the driver before they were transported to their school.
This text doesn't try to convince us in believing something. It doesn't argue anything and it only tries to give us more insight onto the event, which is a car accident. No opinions are stated and only events are given.
Therefore, this excerpt uses an informative writing technique.
Informative is a way to inform the audience on a particular topic throughout the reading. Common examples of an informative paragraph would be to inform people on different situations around the world or a news outlet some would say.
Persuasive is a way to convince one to change/commit an act of sorts. Through persuasion you can convince your audience to look at a situation from a different perspective and perhaps convince the person to be more willing to do change the way they do something else. Common example of a persuasive paragraph would be trying to persuade someone to use less water through telling them the importance of water conservation and how water is a nonrenewable source.
Argumentative somewhat similar to persuasive but is more assertive you are trying to convince the audience why the side you're apart of is more better then the opposite side through a means of ethos, pathos, and logos. Common example of a argumentative paragraph would be something like why pizza is better then hamburgers.
Now that we know this information it's time to answer:
Excerpt one: Excerpt one is known "informative excerpt" because we are informing the readers about how a school bus collided with a car nearby, and how thankfully none of the passengers were injured.
Excerpt two: Excerpt two would be known as a "persuasive writing." We aren't trying to convince the audience on our side of donating blood so this won't be an argumentative writing, we are trying to persuade them by saying the benefits of how donating blood can save a person's life.
Excerpt three: Excerpt three would be known as an "informative writing." We aren't trying to persuade or convince we are trying to inform the audience of the dangers of drinking while in high school by listing all the negative effects drinking has on a highschooler like unsafe encounters.
Excerpt four: Excerpt four would be known as an "persuasive writing." This writing is trying to convince the reader about how the death penalty is a good punishment for criminals because the bible says an eye for an eye and how we should keep it on the books.
Excerpt five: The final excerpt will be known as an "argumentative writing." This writing is again assertive, and it lists both sides of the spectrum how parents won't let their children study abroad because of how expensive it costs for things like tuition, food, shelter along with other necessities. It even goes as far as stating it's own position by saying how it's expensive to study abroad.
