Booker T. Washington was an important figure in history not because he fought for African-American’s rights, but because he fought for them wisely. He knew during his time that they would never be assimilated into society, and instead chose to advance the black community economically (something that would actually make progress) and socially. There was no point in wasting resources on something that would never be. However, by strengthening them with money, knowledge, and time, they could be prepared succeed in the future.
