Satyagraha is similar to the concept of civil disobedience or nonviolent resistance. This was started by Mohandas Gandhi in India, during the struggle for Indian independence. It was also used by Nelson Mandela during the struggle in South Africa under apartheid and by Martin Luther King Jr.'s civil rights campaigns.
