Two ways that children can be affected (not default or the only two) by divorce are by making the child have trust or abandonment issues (possibly causing the child to have committal issues later in life) and making the child feel alienated (the parents often struggle through the marriage and the child is left out, the child feels ashamed like they caused the divorce).
One solution is to have the child get help and go to therapy sessions to discuss their feelings and learn how to cope, and another solution is to have these children be provided with another marital role model. This could be if one parent remarries and is happy, showing a healthy relationship that shows the child happy relationships can happen, or have the child be included which can heal the loneliness.
