The Famine that killed millions of people as a result of Joseph Stalin’s policy of forced collectivization was known as Holodomor. The famine occurred between 1932 and lasts until 1933. The famine was a result of the radical economic changes that were put in place during the period of the industrialization of the Soviet Union.

Although the famine affects the major grain-producing regions within the Soviet Union, the area that experienced the heaviest losses was Ukraine because, at that time, Ukraine was the major area where agriculture was most productive.
