Ads aimed at teenagers are effective but in some cases they are unethical because they induce them to do negative things.
Are advertisements aimed at teenagers effective? And are they ethical?
An advertisement is an advertising space that is generally used to promote a product or service. Advertisements usually have a target audience. In the case of advertisements aimed at adolescents, they generally promote skateboards, clothing, makeup, and other objects or services that they frequent, generating the need to buy or consume.
However, adolescents tend to become obsessed with things and therefore advertisements can become dangerous because some objects such as makeup or excessive party life are harmful to health.
An example of the harmful effects of advertisements is when they spread fashions focused on young people, creating in them a need to consume and follow an idealistic and unrealistic lifestyle. This causes harmful effects such as:
- Depression for not being able to achieve that model of life.
- Criminal conduct to obtain money or things illegally.
- Rebellious attitudes against their relatives for not being able to give them what they want.
Lastly, advertisements can have deleterious effects on the psychological development of adolescents who may grow up without understanding their context and believe that they live in an ideal world like the one depicted in advertisements. This would cause that when they are adults, they do not have responsibility with their lives and obligations.
