In some British hospitals as late as the 1960's flowers and plants were removed from patients rooms at night and placed at the end of the nearest hallway, then returned the next morning. This is no longer done. Can you think of a reason for this practice to have existed in the first place. (Hint: Think in terms of cellular respiration and photosynthesis, not allergies or something else.)

This is the process in which green plants manufacture their food in the presence of sunlight.

The light dependent reactions cannot occur at night due to the absence of sunlight thereby resulting in more carbon dioxide being produced during aerobic cellular respiration.
