Host based intrusion detection are capable of verifying if an attack was successful or not, whereas a network based intrusion detection only give an alert of the attack.

Host based intrusion detection differ a lot from network based intrusion detection. As, they can monitor all users activities which is not possible in a network based intrusion detection. They are also capable of identifying attacks that originate from inside the host.

Another difference is that, host based intrusion detection are designed to monitor network traffic and computers, whereas network based intrusion detection are only designed to monitor network traffic.

Hence, there are various differences between host based intrusion detection and network based intrusion detection.
