Since the 2001 terrorist attacks, significant disasters, and other events that could endanger the public are all avoided, prepared for, responded to, and recovered from using an all-hazards approach.
The September 11th attacks altered public attitudes, shifted national objectives, and led to the creation of numerous important new government agencies, notably the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS), which was founded in 2003.
