Cognitive dissonance is a theory of social psychology. It refers to the mental conflict that occurs when a person's behavior and beliefs do not align with each other. It can also happen when a person has two opposing beliefs.

Signs of Cognitive dissonance:

  • Confusion.
  • Feeling conflicted about a controversial topic.
  • People say you're  a hypocrite.
  • Aware of opposing opinions and/or wishes but not knowing what to do with them.

Compulsory compliance is a situation in which a person is forced to perform an action that is inconsistent with their beliefs and Effort.  While people may think cognitive dissonance is a bad thing, it actually helps  us stay happy and mentally healthy. It can make us happy with our choices – or at least allow us to justify them – especially when they cannot be easily reversed.
