The syntax-first plays the main part whereas semantics has only a supporting role, whereas the interactionist approach states that both syntax and semantics work together to determine the meaning of a sentence parsing.
Interactionist approach assigns semantics a more significant role in the sentence-parsing process. The interactionist theory says that, in contrast to the syntax-first approach, semantics and syntax are both employed concurrently to analyze the phrase and that they cooperate to help explain its meaning. There have been a number of tests that show semantics is taken into consideration right away while reading a text. The majority of these studies employ eye-tracking techniques to examine how long it takes to read syntactically equivalent sentences with key words that either allow or forbid semantic ambiguity. John Trueswell and colleagues conducted one of these studies in 1994.
