Muscle spindle are sensory receptors located in a muscle that sense the muscle's tension. They convey length information to central nervous system via sensory neurons.
Sensory receptors such as muscles, joints and skin are all involved in proprioception. In muscles there are receptors for proprioception are muscles spindles and Golgi tendon organs. Spindles are the complex receptors which lie in parallel with the muscle fibers.
They occur in specialized organ such as eyes, nose, ears and mouth as well as the other internal organs. Receptors of each type that convey a distinct sensory modality to integrate into a single perceptual frame eventually.
