Adipose tissue is also called body fat. It is found all over the body. It is found under the skin (subcutaneous fat), around internal organs (visceral fat), between muscles, bone marrow, and breast tissue.
Men tend to store more visceral fat (fat around the internal organs), causing obesity in the mid-abdomen.
However, women tend to accumulate more subcutaneous fat in their buttocks and thighs. These differences are due to the sex hormones produced by men and women.
