The three pathways for the utilization of atmospheric nitrogen are atmospheric nitrogen fixation, atmospheric nitrogen fixation and industrial fixation. The amount of fixed nitrogen in Earth's ecosystems has been dramatically changed by human activities like the production of fertilizers and the combustion of fossil fuels.

Nitrogen is fixed in the atmosphere when lightning strikes because of the high temperatures and pressures that are created. Biological nitrogen fixation is the process of converting inserted nitrogen molecules into nitrates and nitrites that may be absorbed by plants and used to generate the necessary molecules. Industrial fixation: It takes place in the fertilizer-producing sectors. Nitrogen and hydrogen from the environment are used to create ammonia, which is then used to create fertilizers like urea and ammonium nitrate, among others.
