Muscle tissues have all the properties like excitability, contractility, and extensibility except secretion.
Muscle tissues are specialized tissues in the human body that enable movement. They are made up of thin and elongated cells called muscle fibers. The membrane surrounding the muscle fiber is called sarcolemma. There are three types of muscle tissues found in the body:
● Skeletal or striated muscle tissue
● Smooth muscle tissue
● Cardiac muscle tissue
Skeletal or striated muscle tissues are voluntary while smooth and cardiac muscle tissues are involuntary. The muscle tissues operate the following functions:
● Contractility
The ability of muscle tissues to contract in adverse circumstances.
● Extensibility
The ability of muscle tissues to extend and become longer
● Elasticity
The ability of muscle tissues to get back to their original length
● Excitability
The ability of muscle tissues to get excited in response to a stimulus from hormones or motor neurons
