"Theme for English B" is a free verse that has 41 lines and 5 stanzas that differ greatly in length. The rhyme scheme is such that the 22-year old college student freely expresses his view of the cultural identities in America.

What is free verse?

Free verse is a form of poem that does not follow any set formula. The rhymes are created to flow in no particular order but the author is able to express him or herself without following any rigid pattern.  

Langston Hughes used this rhyme scheme to express the relationship between the blacks and white who have to live with each other because they complement themselves.
