Through projective personality tests, unconscious processes and hidden thought or desires are tested.
Projective tests are designed to enlighten individuals about feelings, desires, and conflicts that are not readily apparent to them.
These methods give one an ability to infer broad conclusions about the test taker's psychological condition from their associations. Instead of directly asking about a person, different types of abstract objects are used instead, which the subject unconsciously associates themselves with.
The two most known projective tests are:
1. Test of Thematic Apperception (TAT)
People who take the TAT test are asked to look at a series of ambiguous scenes and then describe the scenes in a story. The test is then graded according to the main character's needs, motivations, and anxieties as well as how the story ultimately plays out.
2. Rorschach Inkblot Analysis
This test, which was among the first projective tests created, is still one of the most well-known and frequently used. The test consists of 10 unique cards that each feature an ambiguous inkblot.
