In finding the density of a liquid, the method using density bottle more accurate than the one of using measuring cylinder.
How can we conclude the above statement?
There are two common techniques to find the density of a liquid,
- The method using density bottle.
- The method using measuring cylinder.
In the process of density bottle,
We use a bottle is a small glass bottle having a glass stopper at its neck. The bottle can store a fixed volume of a liquid . Generally the volume of bottles is 25 ml or 50 ml.
When bottle is filled with liquid and stopper is inserted , the excess liquid rises through the hole and drains out .Thus the bottle will contain the same of liquid each time when it is filled . It is used to determine the density of a liquid.
In the process of measuring cylinder,
We use a cylinder. After knowing the mass of the cylinder, we pour 100 ml water in the cylinder and then take the mass of cylinder with water. Then we use the mass and the volume of the water to deduce the density of the water.
As we know from the formula,
Density= [tex]\frac{Mass}{Volume}[/tex]
So, from the above discussion we can conclude that, A density bottle is built to have the exact volume of water hence no errors in reading the meniscus compared to a measuring cylinder.
That's why we prefer the method using density bottle more than the one of using measuring cylinder.
