What is ocean currents?

Ocean currents is circulation of seawater masses in the oceans both vertically and horizontally. The occurrence of mass circulation of seawater occurs because of the wind factor. Ocean water currents are divided into two types, including:

  • warm currents : are the movement of seawater masses with warmer temperatures due to higher absorption of solar energy and moving from the equator to the poles.
  • cold currents :  are ocean currents with lower temperatures due to lower absorption of solar energy in the polar and deep ocean areas and move horizontally from the polar regions to the equator or move vertically from the deep ocean to the surface.

In conclusion, warm currents originate from equator areas.
