Huck lies when he claims that the man on his raft is white. The men said they'll check it out for themselves. Huck tells them he wishes they would because the white man on the raft is his father, who is ill, as are his mother and Mary Ann, who are also on the raft.
Huck also lies several times to avoid being discovered, either by himself or Jim. He lies about his name wherever he goes since he is thought to be dead. When he initially walks on shore to check what's going on, he disguises himself as a girl. This proves to be Huck's most unsuccessful deception; he is immediately exposed.
Why does Huck lie so frequently?
Huckleberry Finn begins to lie not only for pranks and gags, but also to protect others. He usually defends Jim during their trip since he develops close relationships with him and Jim is a fugitive slave. Huckleberry faces issues with society as a result of his guardianship of Jim.
