The three steps of cellular respiration are: Glycolysis, Krebs Cycle and Electron Transport Chain (ETC).

Glycolysis is the initial step of cellular respiration where glucose is broken down into three carbon compound called pyruvate. This process takes place in the cytoplasm of cells and occurs in both aerobes as well as anaerobes, as it does not require oxygen.

ETC is the step of cellular respiration where the bulk amount of energy is formed. This takes place in the inner membrane of mitochondria. A proton gradient is formed due to the transport of electron through a series of transporters and this ends up forming ATP through the ATP synthase.
