To find whether a fraction is bigger or smaller then another you first find the Least Common Denominator between the two. A simple way to do this is to take the denominators and multiply them together, and then take the numerator and multiply it by the opposite denominator to get a fraction equivalent for the new denominator. For this you start with 4 times 3 to get the new denominator of 12. Next you take 4 and multiply it by the numerator for the fraction [tex] \frac{1}{3} [/tex] then take 3 and multiply it by the numerator of [tex] \frac{1}{4} [/tex] to get the two new fractions [tex] \frac{3}{12} and \frac{4}{12} [/tex]. Then from here you determine if the numerator are the same and if not the aren't equivalent fractions.
