The legend of Santa Claus is said to have been invented hundreds of years ago by a monk by the name of St. Nicholas.
Santa Claus will be 1,751 years old in 2022, according to the blog Email Santa. As a matter of fact, Saint Nicholas, a monk who lived between 260 and 280 A.D. in a hamlet called Patara, now a part of modern-day Turkey, is where the legend of Santa Claus first began.
The anniversary of his passing, December 6, is when his feast day is observed. Historically, getting married or making significant purchases were considered lucky events on this day.
No one really knows exactly when Saint Nicholas passed away; it was either on December 6, 343 (which seems to be the most likely), 345, or 352, but not 339. Some Italian merchant sailors took his remains from Turkey in 1087. The church in the Italian port city of Bari that bears his name today houses the remains.
