(1-.8)w=(1-.25)c-300, now using w from above in this you get:

0.2(480+c)=0.75c-300 perform indicated multiplication on left side

96+0.2c=0.75c-300 subtract 0.75c from both sides

96-0.55c=-300 subtract 96 from both sides

-0.55c=-396 divide both sides by -0.55

c=720, and from earlier we said: w=480+c so

w=1200

So the original are of the corn field was 720 acres and the original wheat field was 1200 acres.

(After the harvest the corn field is 540 acres and the wheat field is 240 acres)
