Which of the following statements about tornadoes is false? Most tornadoes form during the afternoon. Most tornadoes have funnels taller than 105 m (344 ft). Most tornadoes form during the spring and summer months. Most tornadoes have wind speeds greater than 105 kph (65 mph).

Respuesta :

I have a lot of experience with tornados living in Oklahoma but I looked up this data just to be sure:

Most tornadoes form during the afternoon: "Although they are possible any time of the day or night, tornadoes tend to occur in the late afternoon and early evening hours, when the atmospheric conditions are most ripe for supercell thunderstorms. They are most common from 4pm to 9pm."

Most tornados have funnels taller than 105m: I found one site that said tornados got taller than this but all of the scientific sites seem to suggest that they don't so go with it.

Most tornados form in the spring and summer: "
In Southern states, tornado season is typically fromMarch to May. In the Southern Plains, it lasts fromMay to early June. On the Gulf Coast, tornadoes occur most often during the spring. And in the Northern Plains, Northern states and upper Midwest, peak season is in June or July."

Most tornadoes have wind speeds greater than 105 kph (65 mph): The Fujita Scale starts at 40 mph with and F0, the lowest level, being 40-72 mph.  So yes, most tornados are faster than 65 mph.

Hope this helps

Answer:

Option B, Most tornadoes have funnels taller than 105 m

Explanation:

As per the UCAR center for science,  formation of tornadoes is not a season specific event. It can form at any point of time in a year but the majority of tornadoes have occurred in spring and summer months. These tornadoes are also accompanied by thunderstorms in the month of may and june.

As per the national geographic channel estimate , the maximum speed of wind of a tornado noted till date is 110 kilometer per hour. Thus,  saying that speed of  most of the tornado is greater than 105 kph is acceptable  to some extent.

Also , tornado occurs usually during the hottest part of the day when the air next to ground gets heated.

Hence, option B is incorrect
