The typical gringo, the North American tourist, is a very interesting guy when he travels to Mexico. For example, he usually does not know how to speak or read Spanish-and he does not want to learn, and he expects everyone to speak English. This guy does not drink water because he's afraid of microbes. Do not eat tomato because, believe it or not, because it supposes that it is poison. He does not like Mexican food. He says it's very spicy. The typical gringo is rich. He lives in a hotel and spends a lot of money. He has no respect for Mexicans, he does not appreciate our customs. The typical gringo thinks that all Mexicans are bandits or fools. He thinks that Mexico is an American colony. Imagine! We take these kind of people for ignorant idiots. However, not all gringos are stupid. For example, Peace Corps volunteers are not fools. They are different, different. They speak and understand Spanish, can read and write our language, and are accustomed to spicy food. They like to eat tacos, enchiladas, stuffed peppers. Volunteers from the Peace Corps appreciate Mexican people and their customs. They live, eat and walk with the people. Of course, not all volunteers are the same. Some are intelligent, but some are not. Some are disciplined and diligent, but others are not.
