Protists that play an important role in aquatic food webs are called protozoa.

All protozoans are single celled organism means made up of one cell. Protozoa is plant-like protists that are found in all aquatic habitats. Protozoa play a key role in maintaining the balance of ecosystems. These protozoa provides food to the other aquatic animals that are present in that ecosystem. Without these protozoans, the aquatic ecosystem can't survive due to no food availability.
