A polygenic trait is a trait whose phenotype (set of an individual’s physical characteristics) is influenced by multiple genes instead of just one gene. Polygenic traits express a continuous distribution and they include skin color, eye color, hair color, and height. Polygenic traits that are influenced by the environment are known as multifactorial.
Height in humans is considered as an example of a polygenic trait. This character is controlled by at least three genes with six alleles. If all the alleles are dominant for height in a person, then a person will be tall. Skin colour is also an example of a polygenic trait.
