Romantic era, or Romanticism, was an intellectual, literary, musical and artistic movement originated in Europe at the end of the 18th century. This movement was characterized by the emphasis made on emotions as well as glorification of nature and the medieval past.
Regarding literature during this era, the genre more commonly used by the romantic authors, such as Edgar Allan Poe and Nathaniel Hawthorne were: the supernatural, which refers to anything that is inexplicable by scientific understanding of the laws of nature, the occult that consist on the knowledge of the paranormal and human psychology.
