The Tatler was a periodical launched in London by the essayist Sir Richard Steele in April 1709- It appeared three times weekly until January 1711. Throughout time, the Tatler investigated different manners and society, describing its principles of ideal behaviour, its notions of a perfect gentleman and gentlewoman, as well as its standards of good taste.
