Freedom, economic prosperity, opportunity and the rule of law were some of the values mentioned by President Reagan in Christmas talk about the family in the US. Presumably he meant these were values shared by many Americans. While these are nice sounding phrases, I believe that many Americans would doubt that they benefitted supposedly from the implementation of these policies and they certainly weren't meant for other countries such as Nicaragua where he backed the contras to fight the Sandinista's who were trying to implement these things for the vast majority of the people who had suffered so much under Somoza.
President Ronald Reagan suggested, in his appeal to their sense of patriotism, that all Americans share the following values:
• Loyalty
• Duty
• Hard-work
He also talked about Freedom, Economic prosperity and Opportunity of Americans.
His popularity among the people was also because of his speeches as discussed below:
• Ronald Reagan, as president, would often appeal on the political matters of that time.
• While addressing the public, he maintained a sense of inclusiveness, for example, when he tells his audience that the struggles are being faced by the whole nation as well as himself.
• And because of his down-to-earth sensibility of the common man, he was so popular with the general public.
• His speaking style was intimate, dramatic and intense as if he was speaking to each and every individual and not to the general audience.
• He also used phrases which were repeated frequently and hence, memorable too.
• He believed in many patriotic values and these values encompassed many Americans and that showed his inclusiveness of the public.
• He made use of popular-culture references to make his point and also referred to letters sent to him by citizens, in his addresses.
