The Atlantic Slave Trade was a prime cause of slavery to America and other parts also, Portuguese were the first to initiate it and soon the Europeans followed. One major reason involved Africans also as keeping slave was their tradition also so they cooperated with those who were willing to bring this “Cargo” into Europe and America.

The effects of this trade were so negative on the society. People specially those living in South felt that there is an inferior race in the world who are black, they were totally dependent on them at some point in time. That society was strong in their concept by the slave trading that in no society white and black can live together. This also caused a major economical difference in South and North.

Cause - Spanish and Portuguese relied on Natives to do their labor through the enforcement of the encomienda system and the mit'a system. However, because of diseases and harsh conditions, many Natives died or they ran away because they were familiar with the territory. To make up for the lack ok labour, the Spanish and Portuguese began to import slaves from Africa.

Effects - Because men were often chosen as slaves, there was a huge gender imbalance in Africa, and men would take many wives. In the Americas, few women came from Spain or Portugal which led the men to take Native or African wives. The children of mixed descent were called mestizos or mulattoes.
