After the win over the Persians, Athens entered a time called the golden age.As the Athenians fought off the Persians again and again,
they told the other Greek cites that they need to keep the one big Greek navy
to protect Greece. Many cities thought this was a great idea, but the Spartans thought
otherwise refused to stay. So the Athenians told the other cities to just send
money instead of men so the Athenians will protect them and they did so. As
time went on the Athenians had lots of money and no one had to pay taxes in
Athens. Using extra money Athens did other amazing things to their city.Athens put a lot of the extra money towards art
and buildings. The Athens had money to build the great Parthenon and a statue
of Zeus at Olympia, which is considered one of the seven wonders of the ancient
world.
