Many women were unhappy that Women did not get the same rights as the African-American population and they protested this and were even racist about it often. This caused factions to arise around those who supported both the reconstruction and gender equality ideas and those who wanted women rights without caring for African-Americans at all. Another was that the women in the south were much more powerful since their role in the family was much more traditional as they were the housekeepers. In the north many women only fulfilled the role of being beautiful for their husbands and having children while the Southern women controlled their properties in the absence of their husbands or took care of the household while their husbands dealt with business.
