The author's purpose in this history is that people judge others even though not knowing them. In this case Nani has purple hair instead of blue like everyone else, but it doesn't mean Nani is a bad person. It's just different. Being friend of an Ogre and convincing him of leaving the village made Nani a hero and now everyone in the village loves Nani. I guess because they now feel safe. I think the purpose is never judge or discriminate others just because are different. You never know that person who you  judge can be a hero for you in one way or another.
