Workers, and particularly immigrant workers, were attracted to industrial cities. This was due to the fact that industrial cities presented more opportunities for employment than rural areas. Moreover, although salaries were low, the cities also provided more opportunities for advancement. Therefore, workers were attracted to these cities looking for a better life.
