The Equal Rights Amendment to the Constitution was proposed in 1923 and approved by Congress in 1972, but never ratified by the requisite three-quarters of the state.
This ERA is written by Alice Paul, a suffragist leader and founder of the National Woman’s Party. ERA’s proposal is her second step of confirming or validating the “equal justice under law” for all citizens regardless of its race and gender.
