What direct effect of gaining the right to vote was that women "a. Sought equality In other areas" because just because they had the right to vote did not mean that they had equal opportunity.

a. Sought equality In other areas

Following the passage of the 19th Amendment, women wanted to use their suffrage right to pass more laws expanding their rights as citizens.

Though, women had gained the right to vote, there were still many rights they did not have. Rights to their property, marriage, and birth control were still controlled by the government and their husbands. Women were unable to obtain a divorce, get custody of their children, or control their bodies without the consent of their husband or the government. During the 1920s, women's groups continued to work on expanding rights for women to include the Equal Rights Amendment. The amendment did not make it to the Congressional floor until the 1970s only to fail in 1982.
