That is, you can calculate the acceleration of an object moving on a straight line by dividing the change in velocity by the time.
You find out what the distance is and then divide it by the amount of time it took. You divide a known distance by the length of time it has taken to travel over it, this gives you speed. For instance if you travel 60 miles and it takes 1 hour, you divide 60 by 1, which leaves 60 so your speed is 60 miles per hour.
