Prokaryotic gene regulation

Transcription and translation occurs in the cytoplasm

Genes are located on one chromosome

some genes are organised into operons and mRNA transcripts often specify more than one protein

Eukaryotic gene regulation

Transcription occurs in the nucleus where as translation occurs in the cytoplasm

A 5' cap and 3' poly tails are added to mRNA ( post transciptional modification)

mRNA transcripts typically specify one protein ( ie they are monocistronic in nature), where as prokaryotic mRNA are polycistronic
