you mean 60%of 5 1/2? that makes more sense...
i would do it like this:
[tex] \frac{60}{100}* 5\frac{1}{2} [/tex]
(60% is the same as [tex] \frac{60}{100}[/tex]
[tex] 5\frac{1}{2}=\frac{11}{2}[/tex]
(so that there is no confusion, i've put it into an improper fraction
now we can multiply:
[tex] \frac{60}{100}* \frac{11}{2}= [/tex]
[tex] \frac{6}{10}* \frac{11}{2}= [/tex]
[tex] \frac{3}{5}* \frac{1}{2}= [/tex]
[tex] \frac{3*11}{10}= [/tex]
[tex] \frac{33}{10}= [/tex]
which is 3.3.
so 60% of 5 and a half is 3.3.
