But not only that they were easily replacable, they could have had a geniune fear that striking could lead to physical violence and results in injuries for them. In general however, there weren't as many laws protecting workers at the time, so if they were striking at that time, the factory owner(s) could easily decide to hire new employees which would work under those conditions.
