Company politics is basically networking by socializing within the office. This socializing creates a higher rate of productivity as all involved are able to work more efficiently together. Roger did this well; because he interacted with individuals in the office and he spoke about his opinions on certain issues. Roger did not get the job because he assumed (incorrectly) that just because he had a relationship with the president as well as Harry that he would be given the job. Roger did not put any effort into getting the position, otherwise.
