Other tests that could be performed to come to a verify your alum include a potassium flame test which would burn the potassium within the alum to be compared and/or a colorimetric determination of alum test by observing the absorption rate of our alum. 

The tests that can be used to determine the composition of alum are:

  • Compare the melting temperature with the recognised value of alum (92.5°C)
  • Find out the water of hydration that are in the alum crystals
  • Check the % of sulphur in the alum sample
