it depends on the type of literature!
Well sometimes it can, but other times not. You see sometimes aurthurs make stories to teach morals and values other time its just to entertain. And example of a story just for entertainment is "The Three Little Pigs". There is no moral or lesson in this story (unless you consider "Blowing at a brick house won't blow it down a moral of course) however the story of little red riding hood does have a moral. The moral of this book is "Never follow strangers" or stranger danger like our parents say. So to answer the question it just depends on the story.
